Music TORONTO regrets to announce that Janina Fialkowska is unable to appear on February 28. We are pleased to report that Angela Cheng has graciously agreed to step in for Janina on this occasion.
What do Janina Fialkowska and Angela Cheng have in common? Both are esteemed Canadian pianists; both won the Arthur Rubinstein International Completion early in their careers; both were founding members of the original Piano 6 which sent renowned Canadian artists to small and remote communities that might not otherwise have concerts.
Angela Cheng is one of Canada’s national treasures, consistently praised for her brilliant technique, tonal beauty, and superb musicianship. She enjoys an active career as recitalist, chamber musician and orchestral soloist, throughout Canada and the US, and is currently on the artist faculty of the Oberlin Conservatory of Music in Ohio.
Angela played for Music TORONTO in recital in1978, 1984, 1994, and 2001; and with the Shanghai (1990), the Toronto (1999) and Vogler Quartets (2004). Her return is long overdue.
