In July 1986, four young musicians performed together for the first time as the Lafayette String Quartet; then in 1988 they won the Cleveland String Quartet Competition and launched their international career. In 1991, the LSQ became artists-in-residence at the University of Victoria’s School of Music, in BC — positions they still hold. The LSQ has performed across Canada, the United States, Mexico and Europe, including five previous concerts for us. The LSQ has announced their retirement in August 2023.
The Lafayette also have a subtle grasp of rhythmic inflexion, which gives their performance an inner resilience and momentum to go with its warm and strongly profiled expression. Gramophone (UK)
